Ireland Wedding Celebrants

Guides

Marrying in Ireland

Plain English for couples travelling from the United States, and for anyone new to the Irish system.

The register

What a nominating body is

The organisation that put a celebrant on the State register. You do not have to join it. Here is why the filter exists.

Ceremony types

What a solemniser is, and the kinds you can choose

A solemniser is whoever the State says may marry you. Celebrants are the people you can actually choose. Priests are usually assigned by a parish. Civil registrars are assigned by the HSE, and we do not list them here.

The basics

What a solemniser actually does

In Ireland, a solemniser is the person legally allowed to marry you. Officiant and celebrant are the words most American couples search.
